1 Samuel 15:34 Meaning and Commentary

1 Samuel 15:34

Then Samuel went to Ramah
His native place, and where was his usual residence:

and Saul went up to his house to Gibeah of Saul;
which was also his birth place, and where was his father's house, and where he had his palace, and kept his court; and took its name from him, to distinguish it from another Gibeah; and so Josephus F23 says it was called Gabathsaoule, and was about thirty furlongs or four miles from Jerusalem.

1 Samuel 15:34 In-Context

32 Then Samuel said, "Bring Agag king of the Amalekites here to me." And Agag came to him haltingly. Agag said, "Surely this is the bitterness of death."
33 But Samuel said, "As your sword has made women childless, so your mother shall be childless among women." And Samuel hewed Agag in pieces before the Lord in Gilgal.
34 Then Samuel went to Ramah; and Saul went up to his house in Gibeah of Saul.
35 Samuel did not see Saul again until the day of his death, but Samuel grieved over Saul. And the Lord was sorry that he had made Saul king over Israel.
