What do I meanthen? That a thingsacrificed to idols is anything, or32that an idol is anything?

No, but I say that the things which the Gentilessacrifice, they 33sacrifice to demons and not to God; and I do not want you to becomesharers in demons.

34You cannot*drink the cup of the Lord and the cup of demons; you cannot*partake of the table of the Lord and 35the table of demons.

Or do we 36provoke the Lord to jealousy? We are not 37stronger than He, are we?

38Allthings are lawful, but not allthings are profitable. Allthings are lawful, but not allthings39edify.

Let noone40seek his own good, but that of his neighbor.

41Eatanything that is sold in the meatmarketwithoutaskingquestions for conscience'sake;

42FOR THE EARTH IS THE LORD'S, AND ALL IT CONTAINS.

But 45ifanyonesays to you, "This is meat sacrificed to idols," do not eat it, for the sake of the one who informed you, and for conscience' sake;

I mean not your ownconscience, but the other man's; for 46why* is my freedomjudged by another'sconscience?

If I partake with thankfulness, 47why am I slanderedconcerning that for which I 48givethanks?

Whether, then, you eatordrinkor49whatever you do, doall to the glory of God.

50Givenooffenseeither to Jewsor to Greeksor to 51the church of God;

just as I also52pleaseallmen in allthings, 53not seeking my ownprofit but the profit of the many, 54so that they may be saved.
