28
Therefore they said to Him, "What shall we do, so that we may work the works of God?"
29
Jesusanswered and said to them, "This is 1the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He 2has sent."
30
So they said to Him, "3Whatthen do You do for a 4sign, so that we may see, and believe You? Whatwork do You perform?
31
"5Our fathersate the manna in the wilderness; as it is written, '6HE GAVE THEM BREAD OUT OF HEAVEN TO EAT.' "
32
Jesusthensaid to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, it is not Moses who has given you the bread out of heaven, but it is My Father who gives you the truebread out of heaven.
33
"For the bread of God is that which 7comesdown out of heaven, and giveslife to the world."
34
Then they said to Him, "Lord, always8give us thisbread."
35
Jesussaid to them, "9I am the bread of life; he who comes to Me will not hunger, and he who believes in Me 10will never*thirst.
36
"But 11I said to you that you have seen Me, and yet do not believe.
37
"12All that the Fathergives Me will come to Me, and the one who comes to Me I will certainly* not cast out.
38
"For 13I have comedown from heaven, 14not to do My ownwill, but 15the will of Him who 16sent Me.
39
"This is the will of Him who sent Me, that of 17all that He has given Me I 18losenothing, but 19raise it up on the lastday.
40
"For this is the will of My Father, that everyone who 20beholds the Son and 21believes in Him will haveeternallife, and I Myself will 22raise him up on the lastday."
Words to the Jews
4123Therefore the Jews were grumblingabout Him, because He said, "I am the bread that 24camedown out of heaven."
42
They were saying, "25Is not thisJesus, the son of Joseph, whosefather and mother26we know? How does He nowsay, '27I have comedown out of heaven '?"
43
Jesusanswered and said to them, "Do not grumbleamongyourselves.
44
"Noonecancome to Me unless* the Father who sent Me 28draws him; and I will 29raise him up on the lastday.
45
"It is written30in the prophets, '31AND THEY SHALL ALL BE 32TAUGHT OF GOD.' Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father, comes to Me.
46
"33Not that anyone has seen the Father, except the One who is from God; He has seen the Father.
47
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes34haseternallife.
49
"36Your fathersate the manna in the wilderness, and they died.
50
"This is the bread which 37comesdown out of heaven, so that one may eat of it and 38not die.
51
"39I am the livingbread that 40camedown out of heaven; ifanyoneeats of thisbread, 41he will liveforever; and the breadalsowhich I will give42for the life of the world is 43My flesh."
52
44Then the Jews45began to argue with oneanother, saying, "Howcanthismangive us His flesh to eat?"
53
SoJesussaid to them, "Truly, truly, I say to you, unless* you eat the flesh of 46the Son of Man and drink His blood, you havenolife in yourselves.
54
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My bloodhaseternallife, and I will 47raise him up on the lastday.
55
"For My flesh is truefood, and My blood is truedrink.
56
"He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood48abides in Me, and I in him.
57
"As the 49livingFather50sent Me, and I livebecause of the Father, so he who eats Me, he also will livebecause of Me.
58
"This is the breadwhich51camedown out of heaven; not as 52the fathersate and died; he who eatsthisbread53will liveforever."
Words to the Disciples
59Thesethings He said54in the synagogue as He taught55in Capernaum.
60
Thereforemany of His 56disciples, when they heard this said, "57This is a difficultstatement; whocanlisten to it?"
61
But Jesus, 58conscious** that His disciplesgrumbled at this, said to them, "Does this59cause you to stumble?
62
"What thenif you see60the Son of Man61ascending to where He was before?
63
"62It is the Spirit who giveslife; the fleshprofitsnothing; 63the words that I have spoken to you are spirit and are life.
64
"But there are 64some of you who do not believe." For Jesus65knew from the beginningwho they were who did not believe, and 66who it was that would betray Him.
65
And He was saying, "For thisreason I have 67said to you, that noonecancome to Me unless*68it has beengranted him from the Father."
Peter's Confession of Faith
66 As a result of thismany of His 69disciples70withdrew* and were not walking with Him anymore.
67
SoJesussaid to 71the twelve, "You do not want to goawayalso, do you?"
68
72SimonPeteranswered Him, "Lord, to whom shall we go? You have73words of eternallife.
69
"We have believed and have come to know that You are 74the HolyOne of God."
70
Jesusanswered them, "75Did I Myself not choose you, 76the twelve, and yet one of you is 77a devil?"
71
Now He meantJudas78the son of SimonIscariot, for he, 79one of 80the twelve, was going to betray Him.
