1
I saythen*, HathGod cast awayhispeople? God forbid*. ForIalsoam an Israelite,of the seed of Abraham, of the tribe of Benjamin.
2
Godhathnot cast awayhispeoplewhich he foreknew*. Wot yenotwhat the scripturesaithofElias?how he maketh intercession to GodagainstIsrael, saying,
3
Lord, they have killedthyprophets, and digged downthinealtars; and I am leftalone, and they seekmylife.
4
Butwhatsaith the answer of God unto him? I have reserved to myself seven thousandmen, whohavenotbowed the knee to the image of Baal.
5
Even sothenat this presenttimealso there is a remnantaccording to the election of grace.
6
Andif by grace, then is it no more*ofworks:otherwisegraceis no more*grace.Butif it be ofworks, then is it no more*grace:otherwiseworkis no more*work.
7
Whatthen?Israelhathnotobtainedthatwhich he seeketh for; but the election hath obtained it, and the rest were blinded[a]
8
(According as it is written, God hath giventhem the spirit of slumber,[b]eyes that they shouldnotsee, andears that they shouldnothear;) untothisday.
9
AndDavidsaith, Lettheirtable be made a snare*, and a trap*, and a stumblingblock*, and a recompenceuntothem:
10
Lettheireyes be darkened, that they maynotsee, and bow downtheirbackalway.
11
I saythen*, Have they stumbledthat they should fall? God forbid*: but rather through theirfallsalvation is come unto the Gentiles, for toprovokethem to jealousy.
12
Nowif the fall of them be the riches of the world, and the diminishing[c] of them the riches of the Gentiles;how much moretheirfulness?
13
For I speak to youGentiles, inasmuch as**Iam the apostle of the Gentiles, I magnifymineoffice:
14
If by any meansI may provoke to emulation them which are myflesh, and might savesomeofthem.
15
Forif the casting away of them be the reconciling of the world, what shall the receiving of them be, butlifefrom the dead?
16
Forif the firstfruit be holy, the lump is also holy: andif the root be holy,so are the branches.
17
And if some of the branches be broken off, andthou,being a wild olive tree, wert graffed inamongthem,[d]andwiththempartakest of the rootandfatness of the olive tree;
18
Boastnotagainst the branches.Butif thou boast, thoubearestnot the root, but the rootthee.
19
Thou wilt saythen, The branches were broken off, thatI might be graffed in.
20
Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, andthoustandest by faith.Benothighminded, butfear:
21
ForifGodsparednot the naturalbranches*, take heed lest*healsosparenotthee.
22
Beholdtherefore the goodnessandseverity of God:on them which fell*, severity;buttowardthee, goodness,if thou continue in his goodness:otherwisethoualso shalt be cut off.
23
Andtheyalso,if they abidenot still in unbelief, shall be graffed in: forGodisable to grafftheminagain.
24
Forifthou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wildbynature, and wert graffed contrary tonatureinto a good olive tree: how muchmore shall these, which be the naturalbranches, be graffed into their own olive tree?
25
For I wouldnot, brethren, that ye should be ignorant of thismystery, lest ye should bewisein your own conceits;thatblindness[e]inpart is happened to Israel, untilthefulness of the Gentiles be come in.
26
AndsoallIsrael shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out ofSion the Deliverer, and shall turn awayungodlinessfromJacob:
27
Forthis is my*covenant unto them, when I shall take awaytheirsins.
28
As concerningthegospel, they are enemies for your sakes*: but as touching the election, they are belovedfor the fathers'sakes.
29
For the giftsandcalling of God are without repentance.
30
Foras*ye in times past have not believed[f]God,yethavenow obtained mercythrough their unbelief:
31
Even sohavethesealsonow not believed,[g]that through yourmercytheyalso may obtain mercy.
32
ForGod hath concluded[h] them allinunbelief, that he might have mercy upon all.
33
O the depth of the richesboth of the wisdomandknowledge of God!howunsearchable are hisjudgments, andhisways past finding out!
34
Forwho hath known the mind of the Lord?orwho hath beenhiscounsellor?
35
Orwho hath first given to him,and it shall be recompensed unto himagain?
36
Forofhim, andthroughhim, andtohim, are all things: to whom[i] be gloryforever.Amen.
